Macintyre Station Homestead Renovation

The historic Macintyre Station homestead, dating back to the 1920s and located just outside Inverell, NSW, was one of TBN Construct's biggest and most rewarding restoration projects. Completed in 2023, this restoration transformed a tired, ageing homestead into a warm and welcoming family home, while carefully preserving the character and history that made it so special.

Throughout the project, our focus was on restoring original features wherever possible and blending them seamlessly with modern craftsmanship. Every decision was made with respect for the home's history, ensuring its unique story would continue for generations to come.

The kitchen became the centrepiece of the renovation, designed to bring family and friends together while honouring the character of the original homestead. 

During demolition, our team uncovered a beautiful original brick fireplace that had been concealed behind earlier renovations. Rather than covering it once again, we restored it as a feature of the home, celebrating it in the open plan living space.

To enjoy the fireplace from both sides, internal walls were removed, while the reclaimed English Oak was relocated to the hallway. 

Originally dark and enclosed, the hallway was opened up and we used reclaimed English Oak panelling from elsewhere in the home.

Rather than allowing this beautiful timber to go to waste, our team carefully dismantled, restored and repurposed each piece, creating a stunning feature that now leads through the home to light-filled bedrooms, beautifully renovated bathrooms and warm living spaces. 

The transformation extended beyond the interior of the homestead. The verandas and outdoor spaces were carefully restored and refreshed, creating areas to relax and entertain in. 

As part of the project, we also renovated the original workers' cottage, transforming it into a self-contained wing complete with a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. The renovation preserved the charm of the existing building while creating practical accommodation for family and friends.

Combined with the restored timber floors, original brickwork, oak detailing and carefully chosen finishes, these heritage features create a home that honours its past while providing all the comfort and functionality of modern living.

Macintyre Station is a great example of the projects we love to take on. From structural alterations and restoring original features to building something new to enjoy for years to come; this renovation required careful planning, skilled craftsmanship and attention to detail at every stage.
